Melissa currently teaches reporting and writing at the University of Southern California. She has also taught editorial writing in the Human Rights Advocates Program at Columbia University and creative writing with the nonprofits WriteGirl and 826DC.

Melissa comes from a family of educators; her first & most instrumental teacher is her mother, who worked as an educational researcher and taught special education. Aunts, uncles, cousins, you name it, they’ve taught or are teaching.

She has benefitted and continues to benefit from the guidance of many dedicated teachers, including her late mentor, Joe Miller. Teaching is close to her heart and she hopes her work brings the legacy of her family members & her own teachers forward.

She is available to work through writing problems, review work in progress, tutor individuals & small groups, and teach workshops. She enjoys working with people of all ages.
